Southlake Roof Repair FAQs

Commercial Roofing: Frequently Asked Questions

Would you be able to install my commercial roof on top of my existing roof?
A new roof can be installed over an existing roof if only one layer of roofing is already present, according to roofing regulations. If you already have two layers of roofing, however, we will need to perform a tear-off in order to install your new roof. The existing roof must also be removed if it is unsafe (damaged, saturated with water, or unstable).

What are the signs that my commercial roof needs to be replaced?
Commercial roofing needs to be replaced periodically, just like any other type of roofing. Toward the end of your roof's lifespan, look for leaks or mold, or cracks in the roofing material. If you do not see any visible damage, but still wonder if your roof needs to be replaced, give us a call for a free inspection! In order to determine whether a repair or replacement is needed on your roof, our skilled contractors will inspect it for you.

Does my roof need to be inspected on a regular basis?
Any time of year is a good time for an inspection, but some times are busier than others. Warm weather seasons, for example, will make us busier. You can schedule a survey as soon as roofing season begins if you have a flexible schedule in the late summer. However, if the condition of your roof is hazardous or if you've noticed damage, please call us immediately so that we can inspect it before it becomes a bigger problem.

When I replace my commercial roof, how much will it cost me?
We are unable to give you an accurate estimate online, but our free inspections will help you determine the cost of your roof service. Commercial roof replacement costs are influenced by several factors, including the size and condition of the roof, the type of insulation and membrane you select, and any roof penetrations that need to be repaired. Roofing Insurance Claims: Frequently Asked Questions

What should I look for on my roof after a storm?
After the next severe Texas storm, your roof may be in need of attention. Storm damage can be caused by wind, hail, rain, and more. Evidence of wind damage to your roof is relatively easy to find if you know what to look for. A few signs that your roof has been affected by severe winds are lifted shingles, missing shingles, or missing granules on your shingles. All of these problems compromise the effectiveness of your roofing materials, meaning you need a repair or even a replacement. Your insurance company can help you pay for the damage if you file a claim properly!

Who should I call if I see storm damage to my roof?
First, you will call a reputable roofing contractor for help. At Southlake Roof Repair, we offer assistance with roofing-related insurance claims. If you call us for help, we will be able to mark the areas of your roof that are damaged. Then, your insurance company will compensate you for the damage. It's important to contact us for assistance because we will find the damage that the average homeowner might miss with their roof. You only get compensated for what the insurance company has evidence of.

Who calls in the insurance claim to my provider?
Although you will be the one to actually file the claim with your insurance provider, we can answer the questions that your provider may ask. We also provide the documentation your provider needs for their claims report. Not only do we help answer questions, we can also meet with them directly when they come to check out the damage itself. Overall, a reputable roofer is vital in the insurance claim process for most homeowners. If you try to do it all on your own, you will likely miss important information and lose some of the money you could have gained from your insurance. At Southlake Roof Repair, we know what to look for after a Texas windstorm. Let us help you get the assistance you need to repair your roof!

Frequently Asked Questions: Storm Damage

Is my roof storm damaged? How do I proceed?
The weather may have damaged your home after a severe storm. Checking your property for storm damage safely can be done by following these steps.
  1. Don't take chances! You should place more value on your life than on your property. Whenever you are concerned about roof damage, contact us before climbing up on the roof. Count on us to inspect your roof for free!
  2. Be on the lookout for signs of water damage or penetration in your attic. Check your walls and ceilings for water stains if you are unable to notice visible leaks.
  3. See how your roof looks from the ground. From the ground, inspect the roof itself for damage and look for shingles on the ground, as well as other roofing materials.
  4. You'll know right away if a tree has fallen on your roof. Be sure to have a professional roofer or tree trimmer examine your home before entering it.

How can my roof be damaged by storms?
Texas storms bring strong winds that can pose a great deal of danger to people and their homes. There is a chance that you will find missing shingles, either individually or in sections depending on how fast the wind is blowing. You may also encounter unique damage to your roof from hail if it makes small indentations or holes in it. Any amount of hail damage to your roof is serious, so always call us if you have experienced hail damage. We'd love to hear from you, even if you're unsure about calling. There's no downside to having us inspect your roof to check for storm damage with our free inspections.

Window Installation: Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a recommended frequency in which I should replace my windows?
Unless they are damaged, most windows will last for at least 30 years without any problems. In most cases, you only need to replace them if they are leaking, showing signs of decay, rot, warping, or if they show any other signs of damage. Windows are fairly hardy if they are treated with care!

What are the chances of me being able to install windows by myself?
Window installation may seem simple enough for the average homeowner, but in truth, it isn’t! There is a lot more involved than you might think when it comes to installing a window. A window needs to be level and square with your walls in order to work well, and if this is not done correctly, it may be completely ineffective. You won't have to worry about ineffective installation if you contact Southlake Roof Repair for your window replacement.

What can I do to prepare for the replacement of my windows?
In order to prepare for our replacement service, there are a few steps you need to take. Move any furniture or other items near your windows, and remove blinds and curtains from windows you wish to replace. In order to replace your windows, we will bring all of the necessary materials with us. All you have to do is sit back and relax while we give you beautiful new windows for your home.

When it comes to installing windows, how long does it typically take?
A single window will take about thirty minutes to replace, but it may take a little longer if you need to replace more than one window at the same time. Replacing several windows will likely take two to three days at most. We will be able to provide you with a timeframe when you call us for your free estimate so that you know what to expect when you hire us in the future.

Skylights: Frequently Asked Questions

How are glass skylights and dome skylights different?
UV fading is caused by dome skylights (UV is what ages things). In most cases, dome skylights are made of two layers of acrylic. Usually, they are sealed with butyl tape or neoprene gaskets. Due to their lack of seal-ability, they cannot create a vacuum in the same way as two layers of flat glass. It is not possible to inject argon gas between the two domes because they are not completely sealed. The higher level of UV protection is provided by the argon gas injected between the two layers of flat glass skylights. Summer can also be a challenging time for domes due to their tendency to create a lot of heat.

Is it possible for the skylight to be broken by hail?
Glass has become extremely tough thanks to modern technology. Tempered glass is used in all Velux skylights, which offers incredible impact resistance. There have been fewer than 20 hail-damaged skylights repaired by us in 29 years. In most cases, they were old dome skylights, since acrylic, like any plastic, becomes brittle over time. Laminated glass is available for those wanting a skylight that is even stronger.

Is there a reason you recommend "flaring" walls?
When a skylight is flared, the opening at the ceiling is larger than the opening at the roof. Flaring spreads natural light across a larger area of a room, not only making the room look better. You'll have something that looks like a mine shaft if you don't flare the light from the roof!

How does adding a skylight to your home affect its value?
It is our belief that it does. It has been reported by real estate agents that quality skylights increase house value for a number of reasons, including greater openness, natural lighting, improved air circulation, and reduced energy use. Moreover, properly installed quality skylights allow a house to be used to its full potential. You don't have to waste space in the loft anymore!

Gutter Repair: Frequently Asked Questions

Is it important to have gutters?
Your roof is protected from water damage and pooling water by gutters. Rainwater is caught and carried to the ground so that it doesn't damage your home. A properly installed and maintained gutter system can extend the life of your roof.

What are the reasons for replacing my gutters?
Mold or foundation problems can be caused by clogged or leaking gutters. A gutter system that drains improperly should also be replaced if its drainage is inadequate. In addition, they should be replaced if they have been bent, dented, or are no longer attached to the house.

What are the signs that my gutters are not working properly?
Pay attention to sounds such as rain spilling over the gutters when it rains. It is also likely that your gutters overflow when it rains if you see peeling paint or rotting wood near them. As a final sign that your gutters need replacing, look for mold or puddles.

Which material makes the best gutters?
The most popular choice for most homeowners is aluminum, of course. You can choose from a variety of colors so they match the color of your home, and they won't rust for years. Although copper gutters are more expensive, they are also an excellent choice. Aluminum gutters tend to be more durable, but vinyl gutters are more cost-effective. You can ask us about the pros and cons of each type of gutter if you are not sure which is right for you.
